Halloween

It's WEDNESDAY and I ain't feelin too hot! I got back from the bar last night at around 2:30, and then we got woken up at 5 for a firedrill and had training all morning. I can't really complain, because I inflicted this upon myself, and had a great night so I guess it's worth it. It all balances out, don't it. My makeshift frat bro costume was a big hit. Ian let me borrow his snapback, Shaggy Mike let me borrow one of his frat shirts, and Keeley lent me her white tube socks. I put the shirt over my Americorps Polo so I had a collar, and rocked the Americorps cargo shorts (definitely everybody's favorite part of the costume). I ultra-committed to my role as frat bro and made myself a lot of friends for it. All I really had to do was brag about how many natty lights I could chug in 15 seconds, give lots of daps, say "Sawwwww, dudeeeee???"and tell a bunch of girls that I wasn't like "other guys." This one guy I was talking to was so thrilled about my antics that he dragged me around the bar introducing me to all the people he knows as Frat Bro Vick. He was basically screaming at them that I was the best bro he's ever met and had me to do my impressions for them, too. If I took nothing else away from my time at UVM, at least I know I have an excellent grip on how to be a frat boy.

The bar we went to was called Harvey's, and it was super divey and sketchy and hidden in an alley. There was a very interesting mix of locals and Americorps people in there. In the middle of the bar was a huge table covered with potluck-style food. We decided against eating the food because we had no idea where it came from or what most of it was. I think we made the right decision, because at one point a very disheveled, unwell looking man came up to Jon and asked him to try his homemade SHARK dish that was on the table????? I don't even know. Never a dull moment. We also saw Mike, our elusive leader, at the bar! Drinking beer! We all freaked out and he tried to ignore us for a while but we eventually harrassed him enough into hanging out with us. It was awesome, everything was awesome.

There are so just many things I'm incredibly thankful for here, it makes my heart swell up to think of. Kind people everywhere, that are willing to lend you their clothes and shower you in love even though they haven't known you long at all. Sketchy dive bars in back alleys that smell weird but make you feel at home. Phone calls with people I miss and love. Waking up to the fire drill at 5 AM and getting like, 10 hugs from my team members just because I looked tired. Jasmine giving me her poptart because I missed breakfast. Coffee cups. Spending the rest of the day getting hugs from my team members because I still looked tired and they just simply have hearts of pure gold. Learning to accept the love people want to give without questioning it. Life is just so weird, and so good, and I am learning to love myself more every day and it is a beautiful thing! ! ! ! !!
